Dear PVES Families,

Welcome to the busy month of November! There will be no school for students on this Tuesday, November 5th. It is Election Day, and all staff will be participating in our Superintendent’s Conference Day. There will be no school next Monday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans Day. Elementary students (only) will have a half-day of school (12:00 dismissal) on next Tuesday, November 12th. Some of our parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for this day. Thank you for checking your calendars very carefully this month and adjusting your childcare plans accordingly.

Our students and staff enjoyed a very Happy Halloween Parade this past week. The weather was perfect, and our school community was filled with energy. The student costumes were so cute, and our staff certainly added to the fun with their wonderful costumes as well. Our grade level teams and departments love to dress up with adorable team themes. Video of the Parade is on the Elementary School website. PVES is such a special place!

This Friday will mark the end of the First Quarter of the school year. This is a very important time of year, as the teachers have gathered their student data and are prepared to speak with you about your child’s academic progress. At your upcoming parent/teacher conference, you will receive a brief Progress Report that will be explained by your child’s teacher. Please be prepared to ask questions and express any areas of concern at your conference. We want to work closely with you to support your child’s learning throughout the year. Thank you for your participation in these efforts. Formal Report Cards will be available at the end of the Second Quarter of the school year, in late January.

When you visit the elementary school for your in-person parent/teacher conferences, you are welcome to (and encouraged) to meet with your child’s Special Area teachers as well! You are invited to stop in to speak with the Special Area teacher (Music, Art, Physical Education, Innovation Lab, Band) when you are in the building for your conference, but you are encouraged to set up a planned meeting time with any of these teachers. You can contact them directly via email at first initial, last name@pvcsd.org. Our Special Area teachers will be available during both parent/teacher conference days on November 12th (12:50 to 6:00 PM) and November 14th (4:00 to 6:00 PM). These contact emails are:

Music: Mr. Durland – bdurland@pvcsd.org

Art: Ms. Carilli – mcarilli@pvcsd.org

Physical Education: Mrs. Aurigemma – aaurigemma@pvcsd.org

Physical Education: Mr. Heitman – fheitman@pvcsd.org

Innovation Lab: Mrs. Bruno – jbruno@pvcsd.org

Band: Mrs. Bennett – abennett@pvcsd.org

I hope you all enjoyed the extra hour of sleep this weekend. The darker hours will begin earlier each day at this point, so please talk to your children about outdoor safety. We also ask you to speak with your child about the importance of wearing his/her seatbelt on the bus. Mrs. Robey and I held our Community Meetings with each grade level this past week, and we strongly stressed the importance of bus safety along with our Character Ed and Diversity themes.

Our Character Education theme for the month of November is “Respect.” You will be receiving a Family Bingo Game to play with your child that is based on this theme.

Have a great week ahead.

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
