Dear PVES Families,
The official start of spring is right around the corner, and our elementary students were able to enjoy outdoor recess on the back playground yard this week. It was so nice to see the back field filled with happy children enjoying the sunshine and the play equipment. There are many more days like that ahead!
Congratulations and Bravo! to all of the third and fourth grade students who performed in Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. show that took place this week! What a wonderful show it was! Thank you to Mrs. Phillips, Mr. Durland, and to Mrs. Bennett for their amazing work with our young stars. This musical theater performance was a big hit with the full audience, and we are so very grateful to the PTA, the PVEF, and to all of the parents who helped to make this show happen. We have such talent at PVES!
This week, all staff and students are invited to wear the color green on Tuesday for St. Patrick’s Day. We look forward to a full-school assembly with our visiting Irish Dance school students on that day. Wishing everyone the luck of the Irish!
The 4th Grade Science/Maker Fair will take place this Wednesday, March 18th. Our young scientists will present their projects and studies to students and teachers during the day on Wednesday. The Fair will be open to the public on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:15 PM. Thank you so much to Mrs. Bruno, Mrs. Broas, and to our volunteer Science honor students who have been guiding our science fair participants. We look forward to great sharing and learning!
There will be no school for students on this Friday, March 20th, as our teachers and administrators will be taking part in our Superintendent’s Conference Day. Our spring break will begin a week later, with schools closed from Monday, March 30th through Monday, April 6th. Schools will reopen on Tuesday, April 7th.
We are all looking forward to our PTA Spring Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday, March 23rd, through the morning of Friday, March 27th. Volunteers are needed to help with the fair, and each class will have a visiting time during the week. There is no pressure to buy anything, but books make the very best gifts.
Please take the time to ask your child about the Writing Revolution lessons taking place in their classroom. Our students are working so hard on constructing meaningful, expanded sentences with details, and planning their Single Paragraph Outlines (SPO’s) to construct their writing pieces. Our young writers work hard to use text evidence in their writing, based on both fiction and nonfiction readings. This is great work, and our students continue to make us so proud.
Enjoy the week ahead! This is a busy time of year with lots of school activities filling our calendars. Thank you, as always, for your tremendous support and positive communication.
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
