Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you all enjoyed the snowy 3-day weekend, as we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today with a school holiday. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students, as it is sure to be a quick and busy week.

As we approach the midpoint of the school year, please check in with your children to discuss learning goals, work habits, and strong homework and reading routines for school nights. This is an excellent time of year to refresh good habits and organizational skills. Report Cards will be made available online and mailed to your homes in early February.

We are now taking calls for Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-27 school year! If you have a child who will be 5 years old by 12/1/26, please call our main office at 845-528-8092 to set up a registration appointment. (Current UPK students are already on our list). We will be setting up Kindergarten Screening appointments for mid-May. Thank you for sharing this information with your friends and neighbors. We look forward to meeting our newest students.

We are looking forward to our 4th Grade Winter Concert, which will take place on Wednesday, January 28th, at 7:00 PM in our PVES Auditorium. (Snow date: January 29th). Fourth Grade families should review the letter sent by Mr. Durland and Mrs. Bennett this month. This is sure to be a wonderful show!

As we look toward February, please note that in honor of the Super Bowl and the love of sports, all staff and students are welcome to dress for Sports Jersey Day on Friday, February 6th. (Sports jerseys, t-shirts, club, dance shirts, etc. are all welcome)! We are also celebrating our PVES “Friendship Day” on Friday, February 13th, and all are welcome to wear the colors red, pink or white.

Our Character Education theme for this month is self-control and self-regulation. You can practice and discuss these themes when playing family board games, making schedules and checklists for chores and routines, and when trying new activities. All classes will be reading a book focusing on this theme of self-regulation in January.

Please always remember to check our lost and found when you visit the school, and have your children check it regularly for any lost sweatshirts, jackets, hats, and mittens. It’s a great idea to label these items on inside tags so that they can be returned promptly to their owners.

Have a great week ahead. Stay warm!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
