Dear PVES Families,

I hope that your winter break is off to a wonderful start, and that you enjoy special times with your young ones in the week ahead. As you know, schools will be closed from Monday through Friday of this week, February 17th through February 21st. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, February 24th. We have had a long, uninterrupted stretch of learning since December break, which has been wonderful. I’m sure everyone could use a little rest and relaxation!

Over the past couple of weeks, our elementary students have participated in mandatory safety drills in our building. Together, our school community practiced a Sheltering Drill, and this week, we held a Lockdown Drill. Local police officers visited our school to assist us with the safety practice, which went very well. We are always certain to reassure our students and promote a feeling of safety when we practice these protocols. I thank our SPO, Officer Greg, and our administration and staff, for their assistance with this important work. Safety is our primary concern, and our students make us so very proud.

Our Kindergarten Registration dates are quickly approaching. Please remind your local friends and neighbors that all families with children who will be turning 5 years old by December 1, 2020, should call our main office for a registration appointment. Registration dates will be March 9th through March 12th, and registration will take place at the Elementary School. Our office number is 845-528-8092. Thank you for your help with sharing this information.

Our next Superintendent’s Conference Day will be held on Friday, March 13th. There will be no school for students on this day, as our professional staff will be busy in workshops and meetings throughout the day.

We have been keeping a very busy schedule at PVES throughout these winter weeks. Our kindergarten students enjoyed a visit with a guest dentist, our first graders visited with animals from the Two by Two Zoo, our second graders are learning from hand-on Science and Maker Space projects, our third graders met with author Roni Schotter, many of our fourth graders participated in Colonial Day presentations and are working on their Science/Maker Fair projects, and the whole school took part in classroom Valentine’s celebrations. I thank our wonderful teachers for all the work they do each and every day to make sure your children are happy and engaged in exciting learning opportunities. We look forward to the productive months ahead!

Enjoy the week ahead, and enjoy each other. Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s love for school.

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
