Dear PVES Families,

We have had a wonderful week at PVES, and we look forward to another full week of school before the holiday break.  Congratulations to our first-grade classes on a wonderful holiday performance!  The first graders made us so proud with the amazing performance of their songs and poems, and we thank Mrs. Calhoun and all of the First Grade Team on a job well done.  Bravo!  This show brought smiles to all!

Please note that our holiday break will begin after next week, with the school holidays running from December 24th through January 1st.   Schools will open on Wednesday, January 2nd.  We hope you all have a wonderful break!

Our Lost & Found collection has grown!  All Lost & Found items are now located on a table in the main hallway of the school. Please look through the collection for any missing items.  Any items that are not picked up by Friday, December 21st, will be donated to families in need.  Please always be sure to mark your child’s clothing items, backpacks, and lunch boxes with his or her name, even on the inside.  We are encouraging students to wear hats and mittens to school for outdoor recess play.

We are still collecting for the Holiday Toy Drive!  Please continue to donate new toys to those children in need.  Putnam Valley is such a generous community, and it warms our hearts to be able to brighten the holidays of others who need assistance.  Thank you for your contributions!

Our entire building is putting great effort into our Social and Emotional Learning, especially with our Yale RULER model.  RULER is a school-wide approach that promotes emotional literacy.  This includes Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating our emotions, and of course, this helps us all to access learning.  Our students are plotting their moods on Mood Meters in their classrooms, and the use of Feeling Words is helping to facilitate the RULER approach.  We thank our entire PVES building committee who has helped to support this important work with our staff and students.

We look forward to a festive week ahead!  On Thursday, our students and staff are invited to wear pajamas to school for a school-wide PAJAMA DAY!  On Friday, we will be wearing holiday sweaters or FESTIVE WEAR (hats, etc.) throughout the day.  We will also enjoy a whole-school Sing Along, and a special visit from some high school carolers!  We thank you for helping to support our school culture and positive learning community.  We enjoy these special times together.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead!  I know this is a very busy time of year.  Stay calm, and enjoy the small moments.

Warmly,

Ms. Podesta
