Dear Parents, Staff and Community Members:

Please join Travis McCarty, Assistant Principal of the Middle School, and Chris O’Connor, Assistant Principal of the High School and our PTA and PTSA for a free screening of Screenagers-Growing Up In The Digital Agetonight at 6:30 PM in our High School Performing Arts Center. The movie vividly displays the impact of “screen addictions” on teen learning and behavior. In fact, there is great concern that unchecked screen use can seriously affect cognitive executive functioning and emotional well being of young people. In our schools, we have daily encounters with students who are misusing social media or have been hurt by words and memes produced by others. How do we provide the kind of support and structure that will help our children with this challenge and reality of today’s world? How can we develop productive and civil digital citizens?  We can learn together and encourage each other in this quest. Please do come to this event.

The movie is recommended for adults and children 10 and over.  Some of our high school students had the opportunity to see the movie on Tuesday morning and our middle school students will see the movie during the early part of their day today.

This topic affects all of us.  Thank you to our PTA, PTSA and clinical staff for bringing this movie to our students and families.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frances Wills

Superintendent of Schools
