{"id":9802,"date":"2022-01-04T13:05:46","date_gmt":"2022-01-04T18:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=9802"},"modified":"2022-01-04T13:06:08","modified_gmt":"2022-01-04T18:06:08","slug":"january-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/ms\/middle-school-letter\/january-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"January 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9803 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jan.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"390\" height=\"167\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dear PVMS Families,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy New Year!\u00a0 We hope that you had a restful and relaxing holiday break with your families.\u00a0 A new year always reminds us to set attainable goals and to challenge ourselves to the fullest extent possible.\u00a0 Our middle school students have persevered through ever changing times and we strive to continue to address academic and social and emotional goals.\u00a0 Our students are full of energy and have so much potential to do great things and be lifelong learners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our winter band and chorus concerts were very successful.\u00a0 It was so nice to see a live audience and our talented young performers on stage playing and singing their hearts out.\u00a0 Thank you to those that attended as we hope that this sets the stage for more events opening up live and in person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, please note the following if your child is quarantined and be sure to contact our Main Office to let us know. Please note this instruction does not apply to any other reasons of absence.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email teachers to let them know your child will be remote due to quarantine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should check their email for communication from their teachers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should follow their daily schedules and check Google Classroom for each of their classes as most will open up Google Meets to listen to instruction.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students can email their teachers with questions about any assignments they are working on.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers are responsible for their students&#8217; education and will ensure that they do not fall behind while being quarantined.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have reached the midpoint of the second quarter.\u00a0 Please review PowerSchool and partner with us to contact teachers should your child have difficulty in a subject area.\u00a0 There are opportunities such as after school study hall and our H.W. Booster Lab to help support students in getting them back on track academically should they fall behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our modified winter sports are in full swing.\u00a0 Please note that should a student want to attend a game or match, that they must have adult supervision.\u00a0 Many events start after 4:00PM so they should go home and come back to the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School will be closed on January 17<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. day.\u00a0 This is a nice time to discuss the sacrifice that Martin Luther King Jr. made regarding equality and a vision of hope for all humanity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No Name Calling Week will take place January 18th \u2013 21st. \u00a0 The middle school years are a time where we work hard to remind students of making good choices and to be thoughtful of the words that they use.\u00a0 This week is a nice reminder as our student support team works very hard in creating activities for students.\u00a0 Please expect more communication regarding the events taking place over the course of this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the week of January 18<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, our students will be taking their iReady Benchmark Assessments for math and reading.\u00a0 Please share with your children the importance of these assessments as we use them as part of a multiple measure in placement and to inform instruction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quarter 3 begins Monday, 1\/31\/22 so please have a conversation with your children regarding any missing materials that need to be turned in before the end of the quarter.\u00a0 Please check PowerSchool weekly to ensure that your children are being successful and up to date on assignments.\u00a0 This is also a great time to clean out binders and keep all items in safe storage until the end of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please mark your calendar to check PowerSchool on Friday, 2\/4\/22 for Quarter 2 Report Card Grades and Comments.\u00a0 Please be sure to reach out to teachers regarding any academic, behavioral, or social concerns.\u00a0 You will receive paper copies of these report cards in the mail so please be on the lookout for these and let us know if you have any questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2022 school year will be a time where we will continue to foster <\/span><b>p<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">erseverance, <\/span><b>r<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">esponsibility, <\/span><b>i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ntegrity, <\/span><b>d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">edication, and <\/span><b>e<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mpathy, as we continue to grow as lifelong learners.\u00a0 Please be involved with what your children are doing with regard to technology and social media.\u00a0 Monitor their screen time and speak with your children about the dangers of using inappropriate language, creating fake accounts, and creating videos through social media.\u00a0 Children should never type something that they wouldn\u2019t say to someone in person.\u00a0 These \u201cdigital footprints\u201d are forever linked to the choices that we all make.\u00a0 It is through open lines of communication that you will help to guide your children in making good choices. \u00a0 Please join with us in teaching that words matter and we should all be thoughtful of the impact that they have on others.\u00a0 We all work together to help guide our children and to let them know that they are supported and cared for and that this is a time for growth and reflection.\u00a0 This is our mission as educators!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May this year be one full of good health, happiness, opportunities and good choices!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sincerely,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travis W.
