{"id":7763,"date":"2020-05-22T21:31:57","date_gmt":"2020-05-23T01:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=7763"},"modified":"2020-05-22T21:31:57","modified_gmt":"2020-05-23T01:31:57","slug":"weekly-update-5-22-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/district\/superintendent\/weekly-update-5-22-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Update 5\/22\/20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Putnam Valley Community:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I&#8217;m hopeful that everyone is doing well and looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend.\u00a0 Please see this week\u2019s updates.\u00a0 Please take care and stay well.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adopted Budget &#8211;<\/strong> The district was forced to make some difficult decisions in response to an estimated loss of $1.2 million in state aid for the upcoming school year.\u00a0 These cuts will impact staffing, programs, class size, professional development, and extracurricular activities.\u00a0 While we are hopeful that additional aid may allow us to restore some of those cuts, we are also aware that an additional $1.8 million in state aid cuts is a possibility, and we need to be prepared if that becomes a reality.\u00a0 It is extremely difficult to cut expenses during this COVID crisis when we know students will need more support when school reopens.\u00a0 Detailed information on the adopted school budget can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pvcsd.org\/\">www.pvcsd.org<\/a>. Look for your absentee ballots to come in the mail.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Graduation\/Moving-up Ceremonies &#8211;<\/strong> More detailed information on our High School graduation ceremony will be shared in a separate communication.\u00a0 To summarize, we are prepared to offer two different \u201cin-person\u201d options for our graduation ceremony.\u00a0 The decision on which will be allowed, according to the guidance we have from New York State, will be made in the beginning of June.\u00a0 Our first option will be \u201csocially distanced\u201d ceremonies on the field with limited guests; our second option will allow for individual students to walk across the stage in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) to receive their diploma.\u00a0 Parents will have an opportunity to accompany their child into the PAC and take photos; a district photographer will also be available for photos.\u00a0 A slideshow will be created of each student receiving their diploma and combined with pre-recorded speeches into a slideshow that will be shared with everyone.\u00a0 Another senior event, \u201cSeniorpalooza,\u201d is also being scheduled prior to the graduation date.\u00a0 Elementary School and Middle School moving-up ceremonies are being completed virtually, but each building is organizing a \u201cFarewell Drive-By\u201d to provide 4th and 8th grade families an opportunity to decorate their cars and drive through the campus so children can say goodbye to their teachers (all teachers will be invited).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Personal Items\/School Property\/Yearbooks\/ETC &#8211;<\/strong> Each building is scheduling drive through opportunities later in June for families to pick up personal items that were left behind and to drop off any school property (laptops, library books, etc) they still have.\u00a0 This will also be an opportunity for students to pick up their yearbooks.\u00a0 Please be on the lookout for a schedule from your building.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Summer School &#8211;<\/strong> The Governor announced that all summer school and extended school year services will be virtual this summer.\u00a0 We will be altering our plans and communicating with those families who were scheduled to participate in these summer programs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Reopening of School &#8211;<\/strong> The district has already begun developing plans in preparation for next school year.\u00a0 We are working closely with both private and public consultants to guide these decisions.\u00a0 We anticipate additional guidance to be provided by New York State in June.\u00a0 We are in the process of finalizing our framework for our \u201cRe-entry Task Force\u201d, which is scheduled to meet in the beginning of June.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Social Distancing\/Face Covering &#8211;<\/strong> We received a reminder from the Putnam County Department of Health reminding everyone to continue to take the necessary precautions during the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.\u00a0 Everyone wants to be with friends and family, enjoying the nice weather, but we are reminded that our actions this weekend could have a direct impact on our ability to hold activities like graduation a month from now.\u00a0 We have attached two informational flyers to this message.<\/p>\n<div>Thank you,<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Dr. Jeremy Luft<br \/>\nSuperintendent of Schools<\/div>\n<p><strong>File attachments:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/connectdocs.blackboard.com\/xythoswfs\/webui\/_xy-1318653_1-t_TIAjufMI\">cloth face coverings what you need to know.png<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/connectdocs.blackboard.com\/xythoswfs\/webui\/_xy-1318654_1-t_3Gs8Ejfa\">Screen Shot 2020-05-22 at 10.09.41 AM (1).png<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Putnam Valley Community: I&#8217;m hopeful that everyone is doing well and looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend.\u00a0 Please see this week\u2019s updates.\u00a0 Please take care and stay well.
