{"id":7743,"date":"2020-05-15T15:49:59","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T19:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=7743"},"modified":"2020-05-15T21:13:31","modified_gmt":"2020-05-16T01:13:31","slug":"msg-from-dr-luft-update-5-15-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/district\/superintendent\/msg-from-dr-luft-update-5-15-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Msg. from Dr. Luft &#8211; Update 5\/15\/20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Good afternoon,<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As we look forward to next week, next month, and next year, I want to extend my continued appreciation for your partnership and understanding during these very difficult times.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Here are a few updates:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Friday, May 22<\/strong> &#8211; In accordance with the Governor\u2019s Executive Order, the Friday before Memorial Day must now be an instructional day.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>End of School Year &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong> As we await further guidance from New York State, we are continuing to explore options for when the school year will officially end.\u00a0 We are currently on track to reach our 180 instructional days near the middle of June. Once a final decision is made, we will notify teachers and students as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>School Budget &#8211;<\/strong> As you may already be aware, the aid we receive from New York State was reduced from our January projections. Combined with lost revenue and interest, we were forced to reduce our proposed budget by $568,000.\u00a0 We are currently awaiting new aid runs which may force additional cuts. Budget information can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/\">pvcsd.org<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/district\/boe\/budget\/\">click here<\/a>.\u00a0 Please review all of the information available after the Budget Hearing which will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 pm.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Budget Vote &#8211;<\/strong> The school budget vote is now scheduled to take place on June 9. All voting will be done by absentee ballot as per the Governor\u2019s Executive Order.\u00a0 <strong>Absentee ballots will be mailed to all qualified voters and must be completed and received by the district via postal mail before 5 pm on June 9.\u00a0<\/strong> In the event the budget is defeated, the District may be forced directly into a contingency budget.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Re-entry Task Force &#8211;<\/strong> The District will be creating a re-entry task force consisting of teachers, parents, administrators, staff members, and public health and safety officials to create the District\u2019s plan for when students return to school. If you are interested in joining, please be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Retrieval of Personal Property and Return of School Property &#8211;<\/strong> We are in the process of finalizing a plan for students&#8217; personal items to be collected and labeled so they can be returned and we will soon share information regarding the return of laptops, textbooks, library books etc. More details to come.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>End of Year Celebrations &amp; Graduation &#8211;<\/strong> The District continues to explore a variety of options to celebrate these important milestone events.\u00a0 We anticipate receiving updated guidance from New York State in the coming days.\u00a0 We are prepared to respond accordingly and anticipate sharing our plans by the end of next week.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I hope that everyone has a restful weekend.\u00a0 Please take care and stay well.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Thank you,<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dr. Jeremy Luft<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Superintendent of Schools<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good afternoon, As we look forward to next week, next month, and next year, I want to extend my continued appreciation for your partnership and understanding during these very difficult times.
