{"id":7538,"date":"2020-04-01T11:03:25","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T15:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=7538"},"modified":"2020-04-13T17:46:19","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T21:46:19","slug":"4-1-20-update-re-spring-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/district\/superintendent\/4-1-20-update-re-spring-break\/","title":{"rendered":"4\/1\/20-Update re: Spring Break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Dear Putnam Valley Community:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As the dynamic nature of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact almost every aspect of our daily lives, we remain impressed by the collective efforts of our PV School Community.\u00a0 We are working together to ensure that all children have <a href=\"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/district\/superintendent\/breakfast-and-lunch-available-for-pickup-at-pvhs-please-rsvp\/\">access to nutritious meals<\/a>, our first responder and health care workers are provided a safe place to drop off their children before reporting to work, and that our students continue their education under the guidance of our highly skilled and dedicated staff.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While I\u2019m aware that many in our community have been looking forward to our upcoming spring break, like most things in this \u201cnew reality\u201d everything is subject to change.\u00a0 Please see the guidance below as issued in response to the Governor\u2019s Executive Order 202.11.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cDistricts must continue to provide remote instruction for students, meals for students, and child care for essential workers every weekday between April 1, 2020, and April 14, 2020, even if the district is scheduled to be on spring break during that time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To comply with this most recent directive, the Board will be asked to pass a resolution during our upcoming board meeting on Thursday evening to convert our previously scheduled spring break into instructional days.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We recognize that everyone has been working nonstop to ensure that learning continues during this public health crisis.\u00a0 Teachers are working tirelessly to provide engaging and relevant content to our students. Our students have overcome the challenges of distance learning and have adapted to this new form of instruction.\u00a0 Finally, our parents are balancing their professional and personal lives while still finding time to support their child(ren)\u2019s education.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While the Governor&#8217;s executive order will not allow us to honor our spring break as scheduled on our calendar, it does not preclude us from shifting our distance learning plan for the week.\u00a0 In recognition of all the work that has already been completed over the past three weeks and the fact that Putnam Valley has not missed a single day of instruction, we plan to revise the distance learning plan for the week of April 6 through April 10.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Distance learning opportunities during this week will be geared toward personal wellness, exploration, enrichment, support, and practice.\u00a0 No new assignments will be posted during the week. Everyone is encouraged to find opportunities to connect as a family, enjoy the outdoors, and take time to read a new book or listen to a new podcast.\u00a0 Meal service will continue for those who need it and child care for first responders and essential healthcare workers will also continue for the week.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Students may expect the following types of learning opportunities during the week of April 6 &#8211; April 10:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Teacher provided online resources that can be used to practice skills and develop proficiency<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Links to enrichment opportunities; virtual field trips, labs, or other virtual learning experiences<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Opportunities to make up incomplete or missed assignments<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Assignments that support emotional, physical, and social wellness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reflective practices, including drawing, painting, journal writing, and musical expression<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">STEM and\/or STEAM based projects and activities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other opportunities for self-directed, self-paced, and passion based learning<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Our teachers will share their distance learning plans and resources before the end of the school day on Friday, April 3.\u00a0 Students and families are encouraged to participate and complete these activities in a way that best works for your family.\u00a0 Everyone is encouraged to take some time to reflect on all that has been accomplished, prepare for the learning opportunities that are still to come, and support your family\u2019s health and wellness.\u00a0 We recognize that many families are celebrating religious holidays during this week; work is not expected to interfere with this important family time.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Daily learning opportunities will resume as normal beginning on Monday, April 13.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Thank you for your continued partnership. En reconocimiento a todo el trabajo que ya se ha completado en las \u00faltimas tres semanas y al hecho de que Putnam Valley no ha perdido un solo d\u00eda de instrucci\u00f3n, planeamos revisar el plan de aprendizaje a distancia para la semana del 6 al 10 de abril.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Las oportunidades de aprendizaje a distancia durante esta semana se orientar\u00e1n hacia el bienestar personal, la exploraci\u00f3n, el enriquecimiento, el apoyo y la pr\u00e1ctica. No se publicar\u00e1n nuevas tareas durante la semana.
