I\nhope that the month of July has started off in a happy and healthy way for all\nof you, and that you enjoyed celebrating our nation\u2019s Independence Day with\nfamily and friends.&nbsp; We certainly wrapped\nup a wonderful school year with many celebrations and special moments.&nbsp; I want to thank all of you for your support\nand participation throughout the year.&nbsp;\nOur students have made us so very proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Thomas Chickery as our new\nPVES Assistant Principal!&nbsp; After a\nthorough interview process involving the screening of over 20 candidates, an\ninterview committee process consisting of teachers, administrators, and\nparents, and a full performance task presentation, Mr. Chickery was chosen as\nour top candidate over approximately 200 applicants.&nbsp; Mr. Chickery comes to us from the Community\nAction School, where he has served as an Administrative Intern, an Athletic\nDirector, and as a Physical Education and Health Teacher.&nbsp; Mr. Chickery\nhas a Masters in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Rose.&nbsp;\nHe has also been part of the Center for Integrated Teacher Education Program,\nin the Educational Leadership Program.&nbsp; Mr. Chickery is\na&nbsp;New&nbsp;York State certified Building Leader and a&nbsp;New&nbsp;York\nState certified District Leader K-12.&nbsp; Throughout his administrative\ninternship, Mr. Chickery worked as a Grade Level Team Leader, designed and\nimplemented an advisory curriculum, and designed online portfolios to be viewed\nby parents.&nbsp; He has developed and led professional learning around\ninstructional focus points and data analysis.&nbsp; He has worked with the\nDanielson Rubric when observing classroom teachers, which led to focused\nfeedback and teacher coaching conversations.&nbsp; Mr. Chickery has also developed\nand led professional learning for staff around community involvement and school\nengagement.&nbsp; I am confident that Mr.\nChickery will be welcomed warmly by students, parents, and staff.&nbsp; He will help to add to our warm and\ncollaborative PVES culture, while continuing to bring new ideas to our high\nstandards of instruction.&nbsp; Welcome, Mr.\nChickery!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents, please make sure that your children are participating in our PVES Summer Reading Challenge!\u00a0 Information about the Reading Challenge was included in your child\u2019s mailed Report Card envelope.\u00a0 Our first Reading Challenge Check-in will be held on Tuesday, July 9<sup>th<\/sup>, between 8:15 and 2:30 at the elementary school.\u00a0 We look forward to seeing you and distributing the reading prizes each Tuesday!\u00a0 This daily reading and the practicing of math facts will help to provide your children with a very strong start to the school year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Fourth Grade Moving Up Ceremony, which was held on June\n25<sup>th<\/sup>, served as a beautiful celebration of our students\u2019 PVES\nyears.&nbsp; Thank you to the PTA for all you\ndid to make this day so special.&nbsp; The\nceremony was live streamed, and DVD\u2019s will also be available at the end of the\nsummer.&nbsp; The DVD will also include the\nFourth Grade Walk of Applause to the buses which was filmed on the last day of\nschool.&nbsp; This is always such a\nsentimental event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I begin my seventh year as Principal of PVES, I want to\nthank you all for helping to make our elementary school such a magical place to\nlearn and grow.&nbsp; Together, we are\nproviding our students with a warm and engaging culture where the excitement of\nlearning exists each and every day.&nbsp; Our\nPVES students continue to amaze us with their progress and achievement.&nbsp;
