{"id":5810,"date":"2019-01-17T15:54:37","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T20:54:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=5810"},"modified":"2019-01-17T15:54:37","modified_gmt":"2019-01-17T20:54:37","slug":"january-17-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/es\/es-letter\/january-17-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"January 17, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVES Families,<\/p>\n<p>I hope that you are all having a good week and that you are getting ready for a snowy weekend.\u00a0 Please be safe in any travels this weekend, and please be sure to listen for any possible schedule interruptions tomorrow morning.\u00a0 Winter has certainly arrived.<\/p>\n<p>This week, our elementary school practiced a mandated Sheltering Drill, for safety protocol practice in the event of severe weather events.\u00a0 As always, our students participated with true attention and respect, and the children were reassured that we are safe in our school.\u00a0 I thank our staff and our Safety Patrol Officer for helping us to practice these important drills with great attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p>Schools will be closed on Monday, January 21<sup>st<\/sup>, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u00a0 Our students have been learning about Dr. King and the significance of his famous \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech in their classrooms.\u00a0 Schools will reopen on Tuesday, January 22<sup>nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>As we approach the midpoint of the school year, I would like to remind all families of the importance of our students\u2019 homework and reading routines.\u00a0 Homework is given to provide independent practice to support the learning going on in the classrooms.\u00a0 As homework is reviewed and checked in the classrooms, students are able to check their own understanding, and new concepts are reinforced.\u00a0 Although no elementary homework assignments should go beyond the time that your child\u2019s teacher has stated, the importance of routine and practice cannot be overstated.\u00a0 Thank you for supporting your child\u2019s wonderful work and learning habits.\u00a0 The foundations we are setting here will benefit your young learner for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Please remind your neighbors and friends to call to register their children for <strong>Kindergarten<\/strong> <strong>Registration<\/strong> at 845-528-8092.\u00a0 All new registrants <u>must<\/u> be 5 years of age by December 1, 2019.\u00a0 We look forward to meeting our newest students at the Kindergarten Screening in May.<\/p>\n<p>Report Cards will be available at the end of next week.\u00a0 If you have any questions about your child\u2019s progress, please contact the classroom teacher directly.\u00a0 Thank you for your positive support.<\/p>\n<p>Stay warm this weekend.\u00a0 January is National Book Month!\u00a0 Keep reading together!<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Podesta<\/p>\n<p>Principal<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVES Families, I hope that you are all having a good week and that you are getting ready for a snowy weekend.\u00a0 Please be safe in any travels this weekend, and please be sure to listen for any possible schedule interruptions tomorrow morning.\u00a0 Winter has certainly arrived.
