{"id":5546,"date":"2018-11-09T14:30:07","date_gmt":"2018-11-09T19:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=5546"},"modified":"2018-11-10T18:11:08","modified_gmt":"2018-11-10T23:11:08","slug":"november-9-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/es\/es-letter\/november-9-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"November 9, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVES Families,<\/p>\n<p>We have had a busy schedule this week, and we thank our parents for keeping the students on track during this busy calendar week.\u00a0 There will be no school on this Monday, November 12<sup>th<\/sup>, in honor of Veteran\u2019s Day.\u00a0 We then look forward to four consecutive days of school next week!<\/p>\n<p>Please remember that our PVES Olympics Gym Show will be held on this Wednesday, November 14<sup>th<\/sup>, at 7:00 PM.\u00a0 We look forward to seeing our third and fourth grade participants display their athletic skills.<\/p>\n<p>Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be taking place next week, from Tuesday morning through Friday morning.\u00a0 The classroom teachers have a schedule for class visits to the Auditorium, and the Book Fair will also be open before the Gym Show on Wednesday evening.\u00a0 Thank you for your support. I hope you find some wonderful books, either for now or for the holidays!<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, October 14<sup>th<\/sup>, all PVES staff and students are invited to wear PURPLE to raise awareness for KCNB1, a rare genetic mutation that causes childhood-onset epilepsy and developmental delays.\u00a0 This very rare condition affects one of our precious students, the beautiful and dynamic Sydney Zottoli.\u00a0 The KCNB1 gene mutation was only just discovered in 2014, and Sydney was the 12<sup>th<\/sup> person in the world to receive this diagnosis.\u00a0 November 14<sup>th<\/sup> has become National KCNB1 Awareness Day.\u00a0 We would like to invite our Putnam Valley community to join us in wearing PURPLE to support our Sydney and to help raise awareness for KCNB1.\u00a0 Thank you!<\/p>\n<p>Please remember to vote on the PVCSD Facilities Project on December 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Voting will take place at the elementary school from 6 AM to 9 PM.\u00a0 Lunch will still be served from our school kitchen to our elementary students that day.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank our local dentist, Dr. Pathak, and his registered dental hygienist, Ms. Erickson, from Envision Dental Care, for meeting with all of our students last week to discuss good dental health.\u00a0 We thank Dr. Pathak and Ms. Erickson for taking the time to teach us important information about caring for our teeth, and for bringing dental supply goody bags for each student.\u00a0 We learned so much, and we greatly enjoy working with members of our community!<\/p>\n<p>Please be sure to contribute to our Holiday Food Drive, if possible.\u00a0 It means so much for the students to see us helping others, and to understand the benefits of generosity and empathy.\u00a0 The holidays are almost here, and this is a wonderful time to display acts of kindness whenever possible.\u00a0 Thank you for helping us with this initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Please remember that schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 21<sup>st<\/sup> through Friday, November 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 Schools will reopen on Monday, November 26<sup>th<\/sup> for a full week of school!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy the long weekend ahead.\u00a0 We honor our Veterans at this special time.<\/p>\n<p>Warmly,<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Podesta<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVES Families, We have had a busy schedule this week, and we thank our parents for keeping the students on track during this busy calendar week.\u00a0 There will be no school on this Monday, November 12th, in honor of Veteran\u2019s Day.\u00a0 We then look forward to four consecutive days of school next week!
