{"id":5419,"date":"2018-10-19T15:43:02","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T19:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=5419"},"modified":"2018-10-19T15:43:02","modified_gmt":"2018-10-19T19:43:02","slug":"october-19-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/es\/es-letter\/october-19-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"October 19, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVES Families,<\/p>\n<p>I hope you have all had a good week!\u00a0\u00a0The month of October is zipping by, and we\u00a0look forward to the Halloween festivities and the busy November calendar.\u00a0\u00a0Please remember that students are allowed to\u00a0bring their costumes to school (no\u00a0masks or weapons, please) on October 31st\u00a0for a school-wide activity.\u00a0\u00a0The children\u00a0will then bring their costumes home in their backpacks at the end of the\u00a0day.\u00a0\u00a0Also, if your child\u2019s teacher is planning\u00a0a classroom celebration that day, we ask\u00a0that you do not send in any surprise\u00a0classroom treats. Class parents will arrange for any snacks, and we must always\u00a0be aware of food allergies in the classroom.\u00a0\u00a0Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to the fun!<\/p>\n<p>The month of November is a busy one!\u00a0\u00a0Please note that Thursday, November 1st,\u00a0is a HALF-DAY of school for elementary students, with a 12:00 dismissal.\u00a0\u00a0Parent conferences will take place that\u00a0evening at PVES.\u00a0\u00a0There will be no school\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday, November 6th, which is Election Day.\u00a0\u00a0Schools will also be closed on Thursday,\u00a0November 8th\u00a0for Elementary parent conferences.\u00a0\u00a0Have you signed up for a conference yet?\u00a0\u00a0And, schools are closed again on Monday,\u00a0November 12th,\u00a0in honor of Veteran\u2019s Day.\u00a0\u00a0It is important that you mark your calendars\u00a0carefully, so that any childcare issues are attended to.\u00a0 \u00a0Thanksgiving Break begins on Wednesday,\u00a0November 21st.\u00a0\u00a0Schools will\u00a0reopen on Monday, November 26th.<\/p>\n<p>Great learning is going on at PVES every day.\u00a0\u00a0Next week, our classes in grades 1 through 4\u00a0will begin their Math Challenge blocks during an I-block time.\u00a0\u00a0All students who are not receiving other\u00a0services during this time will take part in Math\u00a0Challenge activities with a\u00a0teacher at their grade level, in organized student groups.\u00a0\u00a0This will be an engaging and enriching\u00a0experience for our students, which was piloted last year.\u00a0\u00a0We will soon be starting a similar plan for\u00a0our ELA Challenge in\u00a0grades 1-4.\u00a0\u00a0We are\u00a0excited about these new opportunities for our students.<\/p>\n<p>Please be sure to check the Weekly Notices carefully this\u00a0week, as we have lots going on!\u00a0\u00a0I hope\u00a0that you will be able to bring your children to the Putnam Valley Education\u00a0Foundation Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 27th, at 2:00.
