{"id":5169,"date":"2018-09-13T15:25:46","date_gmt":"2018-09-13T19:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/testweb.pvcsd.org\/?p=5169"},"modified":"2018-10-05T15:41:36","modified_gmt":"2018-10-05T19:41:36","slug":"september-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/ms\/middle-school-letter\/september-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"September 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PVMS Families,<\/p>\n<p>We are excited to see your children back in school!\u00a0 The social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of all middle school students will continue to be our focus this year.<\/p>\n<p>Establishing a routine will help to promote success.\u00a0 Please create time where your children can focus on school inclusive of your busy schedules outside of our school day.\u00a0 An academic planner will come home and should be used on a daily basis for students to write down homework, take notes, and schedule their busy lives.\u00a0 In addition, please check Google Classroom for assignments that may be posted by classroom teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Grades will be posted on PowerSchool.\u00a0 Please work with your children and partner with us in checking assignments and grades so that everyone stays up to date on work.\u00a0 We will send home paper report cards twice a year.\u00a0 One will go home after the second quarter and the final report card will go home after the fourth quarter.\u00a0 Families will receive notifications when mid-quarter grades are posted and quarterly grades are finalized and you may check grades as often as you would like.<\/p>\n<p>Three of our goals this year are building relationships, being empathetic, and excelling academically.\u00a0 An Advisory period has been added to our schedule and will help to establish these goals while encouraging student advocacy and focusing on the social and emotional well being of all students.<\/p>\n<p>Key dates this month:<\/p>\n<p>September 17 &#8211; 21 &#8211;\u00a0iReady Math and ELA Benchmark Assessments<br \/>\nSeptember 19 &#8211; School Closed &#8211; Yom Kippur<br \/>\nSeptember 21 &#8211; Student Government Applications Due<br \/>\nSeptember 24 &#8211; 28 &#8211; Student Government Campaigning<br \/>\nSeptember 24 &#8211; Back to School Night &#8211; Grades 5 &amp;6 &#8211; 6:30 &#8211; 9:00 p.m.<br \/>\nSeptember 25 &#8211; Back to School Night &#8211; Grades 7 &amp; 8 &#8211; 6:30 &#8211; 9:00 p.m.<br \/>\nSeptember 28 &#8211; Student Government Speeches and Elections<br \/>\nOctober 1 &#8211; School Picture Day<\/p>\n<p>Reading is essential to education.\u00a0 All students should have independent reading books that they carry around with them on a daily basis.\u00a0 In order to encourage this practice, we have a PVMS Reading Challenge this year.\u00a0 If 450 children read 500,000 words or more, Ms. Mangiere will dye her hair pink!\u00a0 We will measure the student word counts using Accelerated Reader.\u00a0 The student body will be updated on their progress towards achieving this goal each month!<\/p>\n<p>Washington, D.C. Trip and Parent Meeting<\/p>\n<p>Our 8th graders will have the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. this year.\u00a0 The trip will take place from\u00a0May 8th through May 10th.\u00a0 Any 8th grader who is interested in attending the trip must attend an information session with their parents on\u00a0Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m.\u00a0 Students will be receiving invitations to the meeting during their history classes.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, we are off to a great start.\u00a0 The middle school has undergone many changes with a new recess area, block scheduling, and an advisory class, and we will continue to improve and provide the best experience possible for your children.<\/p>\n<p>Please be involved and partner with us in your child&#8217;s educational journey.\u00a0 Contact us with any questions, feedback, or stop by and schedule an appointment to meet with us.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to an exceptional year!<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,<\/p>\n<p>Travis W.
