Dear Staff and Community Members:<\/span><\/p>\n

Our spring break is upon us, and we can hear the early signs of the season in the bird\u2019s songs and are seeing the first crocuses and violets. Next week may surprise us with some snow, but there is sure to be sun as well. The wonderful musical, “Annie,” performed last week at the elementary school promised that the “sun will come out tomorrow!” We are looking forward to the middle school musical “Fame” and the High School’s “Me and My Girl” to launch us with gusto into the spring excitement along with the new sports season.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you will take a moment during the week to view the March\u00a0 17<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> Board meeting to hear a very clear and complete presentation of our proposed budget by Ms. Figarella. In addition, in the very beginning of the meeting, there are some unusual and inspiring events. First, one of our seventh graders, Alliyah Steele provided a remarkable presentation on a STEM project she created for a regional STEMfest.\u00a0 She exemplified intelligence, poise and confidence that delighted all present. The meeting will be available on our website, pvcsd.org<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

An equally wonderful aspect of the presentation was the response from members of our cheerleading and girls basketball teams who attended the meeting to be lauded for their exceptional performance as athletes during their season. When Alliyah asked for volunteers to help demonstrate her experiment, the girls came through and cheered her on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our High School Make A Difference Club has been recognized as an Optimum Community\u2019s Charity Champion.\u00a0 They are being rewarded for their efforts with a donation to the charity of their choice, Drug Crisis in Our Backyard, a community-based program offering education for those struggling with addiction.\u00a0\u00a0 Watch the Optimum video of the PVHS Stay-Awake-A-Thon, held at our high school on March 11.\u00a0 Click here.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

These examples of community support represent the unique spirit of Putnam Valley, a neighborly, warm connection that makes Putnam Valley a special place to live and work.\u00a0 We are inspired by our students and staff every day. Join us in celebrating our students, teams and coaches and congratulating Nick Lenhard, who was named Coach of the Year for Section 1 girls basketball.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am sending lots of thoughts for a safe and sunny holiday week with special wishes for all who celebrate Easter. Hopefully, the break will clear some of the viruses that have been pervasive in our region, and the refreshment of the week away will enliven students and staff when we return on Tuesday, March 29.<\/span><\/p>\n
