{"id":20005,"date":"2026-09-30T14:25:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=20005"},"modified":"2026-09-30T14:25:29","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:25:29","slug":"october-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/ms\/middle-school-letter\/october-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"October 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-20006\" src=\"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/october26.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"626\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dear PVMS Families,<\/p>\n<p>I want to take a moment to share how well your children have transitioned back to school for our 2026-2027 school year.\u00a0 It usually takes a while to become adjusted to new routines but our students have done this exceptionally well.\u00a0 In fact, our school wide community meeting was a true reflection of this with such respectful and engaged audience members who reflected what this school year will be like.<\/p>\n<p>We have been very lucky to start the year with warm temperatures and little to no rainfall (except on our weekends).\u00a0 This has allowed our students to get outside for recess and they have taken full advantage of the opportunities afforded to them.\u00a0 Please know that with the sun setting earlier and with early mornings full of darkness, it will be vital for our students to start dressing in layers.\u00a0 This will ensure that as cooler temperatures approach, they will continue to be prepared for outside recess.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all of our families that were able to come out to our Back to School Night(s) and partnering with us in your child\u2019s educational journey.\u00a0 If you would like to schedule a meeting with your child&#8217;s teachers, please contact the teacher directly and\/or the team leader on the grade level\u00a0 to set up a day that works for everyone.\u00a0 Topics of these meetings may range from academic, social and emotional, or just letting teachers know who your child is as a learner.\u00a0 I highly encourage you to reach out and schedule these meetings at your convenience.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, for the first time in over 20 years, we will be offering <b>parent\/teacher conferences<\/b> at Putnam Valley Middle School.\u00a0 This will be similar to what the elementary school has done in the past for many years.\u00a0 These will take place on November 10th from 12:15 &#8211; 5:40PM (half day for students) and November 17th from 5:00 &#8211; 8:00PM.\u00a0 There will be more information to come with regard to scheduling times with teachers.\u00a0 This will result in additional \u00bd days for students on November 24th and May 28th.<\/p>\n<p>Some of<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1kyWX9F_pKRfL59gjjAO9XW5tMQP5unyVBzVO7Tlfnz0\/edit?usp=sharing\"> our clubs<\/a> have started and many more will start this month.\u00a0 We always encourage students to expand their horizons in trying new things and this is a wonderful opportunity to do so.\u00a0 Seventh and eighth grade students that may qualify for National Junior Honor Society can expand on their experiences and application requirements by joining modified sports and joining clubs.\u00a0 Many of our clubs run in the afternoon but some run in the morning so there is a need to be dropped off at 7:00AM.\u00a0 Please sign your child up prior to attending and remember students can<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeacYYUJgYr0Y3nbV-Liz9UvtTQ5ug4CHdiZu_EnaneUOmGNg\/viewform?ts=60f97f87\"> sign up <\/a>for as many as they would like to.\u00a0 Students will take the <a href=\"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/resources\/pdf\/transportation\/530_Sports_Late_Runs.pdf\">loop bus<\/a> that runs home or must be picked up by parents\/guardians at 4:15PM.<\/p>\n<p>Our <b>Student Council<\/b> speeches were outstanding!\u00a0 Elections were held on Monday, September 28th and it took a great deal of courage to give speeches in front of our student body.\u00a0 Congratulations to all who were able to speak on initiatives and positive change in representing our PVMS community.\u00a0 The following students will hold positions for our upcoming school year.<\/p>\n<h3><b>8th Grade President:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Adam Davino<\/p>\n<h3><b>8th Grade Vice President:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>William Marinelli<\/p>\n<h3><b>7th Grade Senators:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Ryan Byrd &amp; Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.\u2122\u201d<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0 <\/i><i>The theme was selected through NFP\u2019s annual Red Ribbon Week Theme Contest and highlights the idea that choosing to live drug-free is an everyday act of leadership, courage, and positive influence.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The winning slogan was submitted by Ava Tackett, whose message stood out for its clarity, empowerment, and strong focus on personal responsibility and peer influence. \u201cDrug free means not taking drugs and making an impact on others,\u201d Ava shared.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20007\" src=\"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/redribbonweek.jpeg\" alt=\"Red Ribbon Week\" width=\"300\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though we draw attention to this topic during the week of October 23rd, it is imperative that we open lines of communication with our children so that they are comfortable sharing anything with us throughout the entire year and through their entire life.\u00a0 Please continue to talk with your children to see how they are doing.\u00a0 The use of group text messages and use of social media platforms continues to grow.\u00a0 Please monitor the words and actions taking place on these platforms.\u00a0 If something is concerning then bring it to our attention as there is a nexus between what happens outside of school and its impact on those in school.\u00a0 Continue to help us in raising children who are upstanders in using positive language and actions as opposed to bystanders who join in and\/or look the other way.\u00a0 It is through these relationships that we continue to inform and reflect.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, we have an extremely busy month ahead of us!\u00a0 Please remember to contact the middle school if you have any questions.\u00a0 We hope to continue to work hard in partnering with you in helping to develop life-long learners who make good choices.<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,<br \/>\nTravis W.
