Athletes at States<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Game Day Cheerleaders win states again!\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>This is their 2nd state title in 3 years.\u00a0 Congratulations to coaches Kelly, Nicole, and Joe for coaching the team to the state title.\u00a0 PVHS Cheer is an elite squad and there are no signs of slowing down.\u00a0 The team has set the standard for Game Day Cheerleading in NY State through dedication, hard work, a lot of yelling and screaming, coupled with unmatched enthusiasm.\u00a0 Way to go, Tigers!<\/p>\n

Volleyball<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Congratulations to the girls’ volleyball team for making it to the state final four on Friday!\u00a0 We will have a send-off to states on Wednesday, Nov. 18th, at 11:30.\u00a0 The volleyball team will begin the state final four pool play on Friday at 2:00 in Glens Falls.<\/p>\n

Swimming<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We would also like to congratulate Elizabeth Knuth for making it to the states for swimming!\u00a0 We will have Elizabeth honored with a state send-off on Wednesday with the volleyball team.\u00a0 Congratulations and good luck, Elizabeth!\u00a0 Elizabeth will compete on Thursday at states.<\/p>\n

End of Quarter 1<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The first-quarter grades are available to view on PowerSchool.\u00a0 This is an excellent opportunity to check your child’s progress and reach out to teachers with any concerns you may have.\u00a0 We also recommend that you review your child’s attendance.\u00a0 If they have more than four unexcused absences in a half-year course,\u00a0they are jeopardizing their ability to earn credit for the course.<\/p>\n

AP\/IB Course Payments<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Payments were due on I would like to clear up any misconceptions there may be about IB course payments.\u00a0 All 2nd-year students (seniors) enrolled are required to pay for the IB course and sit for all assessments.\u00a0 The payment date has passed.\u00a0 We are willing to waive the late fee as long as you are registered by November 21st.<\/div>\n

Advanced Placement Enrollment:<\/em> Students who register for Advanced Placement Classes are required to sit for the AP Exam given for that course in May of the year of enrollment.\u00a0 Registration for the course serves as \u201cimplied consent\u201d to pay for the exam and to sit for it in May. Financial assistance is available through AP Services for qualified students.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

IB Enrollment:<\/em>\u00a0Students who register for IB classes are required to complete the Internal Assessments (IA) and sit for the External Assessments (EA) in May at the conclusion of the course.\u00a0 All IB courses are 2-year courses.\u00a0 Registration occurs in year-2 of the course and serves as \u201cimplied consent\u201d to pay for and complete all assessments.\u00a0 The district covers the cost of the IB Language and Literature course.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Emergency Drills<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Both the middle school and high school will have a state-mandated\u00a0lockdown drill<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday, November 18th, in the morning.<\/strong>\u00a0 Prior to the drill, we will announce that we will begin our lockdown drill shortly.\u00a0 We will test out our automated lockdown system.\u00a0 Students and staff will hear an automated voice loudly announcing \u201cLockdown. Lockdown, Lockdown\u201d repetitively for a minute.\u00a0 The automated lockdown will be heard at the middle school and high school.\u00a0 Both schools will enter the lockdown protocol.\u00a0 The Putnam County Sheriff\u2019s Department will conduct the drill with other local law enforcement agencies simultaneously in both buildings.<\/p>\n

We will have an\u00a0evacuation (fire) drill on Monday, November 17th<\/strong>, after lunch.\u00a0 NYSED requires us to block an exit on one or more of our evacuation drills.\u00a0 One exit will be blocked during this fire drill.<\/p>\n

BOCES Tech Center Visit and Tour<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Representatives from the BOCES Technical and Career Center will be presenting at the high school to all Sophomores on Wednesday, November 19th, in the morning.<\/p>\n

Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES invites\u00a010th-grade\u00a0students to\u00a0tour the Tech Center in Yorktown on Tuesday, December 2, 11:30 am \u2013 2:00 pm. \u00a0If your child is interested in attending the Yorktown BOCES campus, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about the vocational programs offered at the Tech Center.\u00a0\u00a0Seats are limited for this tour and students should only attend if interested in attending a program as an 11th grader<\/em>.\u00a0Guidance Counselor approval is required to attend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To make the most of their tour, students are encouraged to select a specific trade that aligns with their interests. Refer to the attached BOCES Tech Tour Information Guide and choose one group to visit.<\/p>\n

To allow your child to attend, please complete and return the attached permission slip.\u00a0This form must be submitted<\/strong>\u00a0to the Guidance Office by Wednesday, Nov. 19,\u00a0<\/strong>to allow the school nurse enough time to clear students and process permission slips per New York State Educational Law.\u00a0\u00a0Transportation will be provided from PVHS to BOCES.<\/p>\n
