{"id":15624,"date":"2024-11-01T11:36:48","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T15:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=15624"},"modified":"2024-11-01T11:37:04","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T15:37:04","slug":"november-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/ms\/middle-school-letter\/november-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"November 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-15625\" src=\"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/unnamed-2.jpg\" alt=\"November\" width=\"330\" height=\"226\" \/>Dear PVMS Families,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have made it to November and the year has flown by so far.\u00a0 The end of quarter one is quickly approaching as your children have had a wonderful start to our school year.\u00a0 I hope you have had the chance to schedule a team meeting with your child\u2019s teachers to share progress and reflect on the first 10 weeks of school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the time of year where we take a moment to give thanks for all that we have and gather to spend time with friends and family.\u00a0 November brings on those emotions beyond being thankful while we also experience leaves falling and cooler temperatures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our month of October was extremely eventful with our Red Ribbon week being a success with this year&#8217;s quote, \u201cLife Is A Movie &#8211; Film Drug Free.\u201d\u00a0 Our PTA sponsored Anti Bullying Assembly with Brian Chevalier was interactive with music and sign language with our entire student body signing and moving to the beat of the music. \u00a0 Thursday was our fourth annual First Responders Apparatus and Equipment Day where our local municipalities came to PVMS to show off what they do.\u00a0 A tremendous thank you to the Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps, Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Putnam County Sheriff\u2019s Department, Putnam County SWAT team, and New York State Police.\u00a0 It was wonderful to see many come out to meet our students and share what they do.\u00a0 A highlight was the New York State Police providing a crash simulator and what it\u2019s like if you do not wear your seatbelt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Halloween Bash was a tremendous success with around 250 students in attendance!\u00a0 Mrs. Dreessen and Mrs. Nadell along with our student council created a memorable evening <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filled with spooktacular activities which included:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Movie (Dining Hall)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DJ (Gymnasium)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photo Booth (Gymnasium)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just Dance (Learning Commons)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karaoke &amp; Lip Syncing (Chorus Room)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Face Painting Station w\/HS students (Dining Hall)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candy Corn Estimation Station (Dining Hall)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arts &amp; Crafts; Puzzles; Coloring<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treats &amp; Water (Dining Hall)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A great evening was had by all as it is always amazing to see such creativity in the various costumes that students wore.\u00a0 If you would like to see pictures of the students who attended, please take a look at our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/photos.google.com\/share\/AF1QipNzxWBdRlgex1WYa2WBvijcYEK91cnSfAeqaqf32zDTqN_2ZpEYIOMY3ymqk3QMaA?key=TGhYTXdvV3RBQzNWdkZKSWhFXzJVVW15TWFIZTJn\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Photos page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have seen abnormally warm temperatures for late October and the first day of\u00a0 November but please know we can anticipate colder temperatures in the near future. Please have your children bundle up for these changes.\u00a0 They should be wearing jackets and be prepared for outdoor recess and outdoor physical education classes while enjoying the fresh air.\u00a0 Please remind your children to check the lost and found as we have an overabundance of jackets and sweatshirts that have been left at PVMS to start our year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This time of year reminds us that there is always the possibility of snow or icy roads moving forward and to <\/span><b>have a contingency plan in place.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 In the case that we may have an early dismissal, it is imperative to provide your children with a house key or a plan to go to a neighbor\u2019s or relative\u2019s house.\u00a0 We do not want your children to panic or need to make last minute plans as this will impact their emotional state and distress them in a time where this doesn\u2019t need to be the case.\u00a0 Create a plan and discuss it with your child.\u00a0 If we have an interruption that causes a day off from school that was not anticipated, please note that the letter day will be as it was intended to be.\u00a0 For example, if the day off due to the interruption was an A day then the following day school is in session is an A day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Important Dates<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tuesday, November 5th &#8211; Superintendent\u2019s Conference Day &#8211; Election Day &#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>No School for students. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Our staff members will be taking part in a Superintendent\u2019s Conference Day and expanding on professional development opportunities.\u00a0 Please get out and remember to vote!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Thursday, November 7th &#8211; Cell Phones and Your Children &#8211; PVMS Dining Hall &#8211; 6:00PM\u00a0 &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Putnam Valley School District is excited to host an evening of learning and discussion on the topic of cell phones and their impact on children. Parents will hear from regional experts who will present the latest research and practices regarding cell phone use across the country. This event will provide a chance to engage in conversations with other parents, sharing insights and strategies for managing cell phone use. Together, we will gain a better understanding of the neurological and social impacts of cell phones on children and we will explore potential strategies for the future.\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/6gZFJgF6QNqp7L6U8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RSVP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is appreciated, but not mandatory.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents and guardians (Grades K thru 12)\u00a0 are all welcome to attend!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Monday, November 11th &#8211; Veterans Day (observed) &#8211; Thank you to those who have served our country!\u00a0 No School for staff or students.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Quarter 2 begins Tuesday, November 12th <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so please have a conversation with your child regarding any missing materials that may need to be turned in before the end of the quarter.\u00a0 Please check PowerSchool weekly to ensure that your child is being successful and up to date on assignments.\u00a0 This is also a great time to clean out binders and keep all items in safe storage until the end of the year. \u00a0 Please mark your calendar to check PowerSchool on Friday, November 15<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Quarter 1 Report Card Grades and Comments.\u00a0 Please be sure to reach out to teachers regarding any academic, behavioral, or social concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Middle School Picture Retake Day will take place on Monday, November 18th. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Please ensure your child dresses to impress!\u00a0 We will hold entire grade level class pictures in our gymnasium during recess on this day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Thanksgiving Recess will be observed November 27th &#8211; December 1st.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Enjoy this time with your family and reflect on everything that we have to be thankful for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please find time to discuss the community in which we live and how we can give back.\u00a0 This may be collecting for a food drive or food pantry and\/or volunteering time to help others.\u00a0 Putnam Valley is a special place and our children are our future.\u00a0 Thank you for your support and be well!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sincerely,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travis W.
