{"id":11169,"date":"2023-03-01T10:38:56","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T15:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/?p=11169"},"modified":"2023-03-01T10:39:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T15:39:12","slug":"march-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/index.php\/ms\/middle-school-letter\/march-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"March 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11170 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pvcsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/march23.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"204\" \/>Dear PVMS Families,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcome to March!\u00a0 We finally experienced some snowfall as well as a snow day.\u00a0 What does this mean for us?\u00a0 Will March come in like a lion and provide more snow and wind or will we continue to experience a mild winter?\u00a0 With that being said, I hope you are looking forward to Spring as much as I am.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We had a wonderful turnout by families and great support by our Board of Education members for our IB Parent Information Night.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you to Mrs. Levine and Dr. Luft as well as BOE members Helen Horvitz, Sam Oliverio Jr., Barbara Parmly, and Janette Yetter for being in attendance.\u00a0 Please take a look at our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1NQQExb1DsM_F_w-qbDjXmwS-AdN5Qc2ZMYdKNsPSMdY\/edit?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IB MYP Presentation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with FAQs that were brought up the evening of our presentation.\u00a0 If you have more questions then please contact us directly and we would be happy to look into your inquiries. \u00a0 The greatest take away from the evening was that IB MYP is for all middle school students.\u00a0 It is about the process of learning and ensuring students master how to learn as opposed to memorization of facts and details and this is a journey for all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that if your 7th and 8th grader is going to play school sports this season then please ensure to sign them up before the end of the day on Friday, March 3rd.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Registration for SPRING Modified (7th\/8th Grade), JV, and Varsity sports is open. Registration will close on Friday, March 3 at 11:59pm. Late registrations will not be accepted.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Register Here: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familyid.com\/organizations\/putnam-valley-csd-athletics\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.familyid.com\/organizations\/putnam-valley-csd-athletics<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Middle School Drama, Lion King Jr. will take place Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th at 7:00PM.\u00a0 Please come out in person and see our students on stage.\u00a0 We have tremendous talent and your continued support is greatly appreciated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We continue to see a rise in social media usage amongst our student population.\u00a0 Students communicate in a variety of ways through gaming platforms, text messaging groups, Snapchat, etc.\u00a0 There will always be a way for them to communicate but have we addressed these platforms and the proper way to communicate in a positive and productive way?\u00a0 It has been a goal of ours at PVMS to bring attention to the concerns that we have observed around the hurtful texting that exists. \u00a0 Please partner with us in monitoring what your children are texting on their phones as well as other devices.\u00a0 Students should treat one another with respect and dignity.\u00a0 They should be reminded to treat everyone the way in which they would like to be treated.\u00a0 Some of our students act differently in the \u201cvirtual\u201d world at times.\u00a0 Our role is to educate them to make positive choices and if anything, let it be something they learn from if they make a poor choice.\u00a0 Families should know that what students do outside of school can have a connection to what happens in school and we must investigate these situations when they are brought to our attention.\u00a0 It takes a village to raise a child and we appreciate your partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Key Dates \u2013 Mark Your Calendar<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday, March 3rd marks the midpoint of the 3rd quarter.\u00a0 Please look for updated comments on PowerSchool starting Thursday, March 9th.\u00a0 After reviewing your child\u2019s progress, please contact their classroom teacher(s) with any questions or concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encore 4 for 5th and 6th grade begins on Monday, March 6th.\u00a0 Please review your child\u2019s schedule and ensure that they know where they are going.\u00a0 They can always stop by the Main Office and we will let them know if they are unsure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have a Superintendent&#8217;s Conference Day on Friday, March 10th.\u00a0 There is no school for students on this day while our staff embarks on professional development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MS Drama &#8211; The Lion King Jr. &#8211; Friday, March 10th &amp; Saturday, March 11th &#8211; 7:00PM &#8211; PVMS Stage<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daylight Savings Time is Sunday, March 12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 Don\u2019t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Happy St. Patrick\u2019s Day \u2013 March 17<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will announce our National Junior Honor Society recipients on Friday, March 17th.\u00a0 Congratulations to all who receive this recognition.\u00a0 Our induction ceremony will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 23rd on our PVMS stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Student VS Staff Olympics will take place during 8th period on Friday, March 31st.\u00a0 We hope everyone enjoys their Spring Break the following week!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our school is a safe place where we focus on not only academics, but also the social and emotional wellbeing of all children.\u00a0 If you have any questions please remember to call the Middle School and we will get you the information you need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We look forward to a wonderful month with Spring officially starting on the 20th with even warmer temperatures.\u00a0 Thank you for your continued support of our PVMS community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sincerely,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travis W.
