Dear PVMS Families,<\/span><\/p>\n

We hope you have been enjoying your summer!\u00a0 The weather has been warm with little rainfall so we are hopeful our lakes and pools have given you a sense of reprieve.\u00a0 August is upon us and although there are many days of summer break left, we wanted to update you on some plans for our 2022-2023 school year.\u00a0 The upcoming year will be filled with a return to many of our past practices and events as well as new opportunities!<\/span><\/p>\n

You will notice that we have a few updates to our website and we will continue to be posting <\/span>daily announcements<\/span><\/a> there.\u00a0 Please bookmark our site on your devices as this will be updated weekly to share events and happenings in our school community.\u00a0 Club offerings and dates will be posted in September.\u00a0 Please visit our <\/span>website<\/span><\/a> to see important updates, images of our school year, and our monthly newsletter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>first day of our upcoming school year<\/b> will be Thursday, September 1st, 2022 for our 5th and 6th graders. All students will be welcomed back on Friday, September 2nd.\u00a0 This staggered start will enable our 5th and 6th graders to get settled in with an orientation and fewer students in the building to start their first day with activities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New students in 7th and 8th grade will have the opportunity to come to a locker opening session b<\/span>etween 12:30-2:30 PM on Thursday, September 1st.\u00a0 Please watch the following <\/span>video<\/span><\/a> that will help assist your child with opening their locker.\u00a0 Our 7th and 8th grade teachers will assist with locker opening during this time as well. Parents must drop off their children and wait in our parking lot and pick up their children when they are finished getting acclimated to the locker opening process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

***We will have our <\/span>5th grade and new student(s) parent\/guardian orientation<\/b> at 8:00AM on Thursday, September 1st.\u00a0 Parents and guardians will be welcomed into our gymnasium where we will speak about becoming acclimated to our school.<\/span><\/p>\n

School will be in session daily from 7:48 AM until 2:36 PM.\u00a0 <\/span>Our first two days of school, September 1st and 2nd will be A days.<\/b>\u00a0 This will enable all students to start consistently.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are <\/span>dropping off your child during the school year<\/b>, as opposed to using bus transportation, please use the crosswalk area as the drop off point. This is a monitored area where students can safely cross the driveway and avoid moving bus traffic.\u00a0 Please do not drop your child off prior to 7:30 AM unless they are attending a before school club that starts at 7:00 AM.\u00a0 We will have more information regarding clubs in September.<\/span><\/p>\n

A friendly reminder that we ask that students not share their lockers.\u00a0 Personal belongings should not be shared among students.\u00a0 Please be sure to visit our <\/span>PVMS Back To School Supply List<\/span><\/a> page.\u00a0 This will help to prepare your children for the upcoming year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer Reading – We have a number of suggestions for summer reading.\u00a0 <\/span>Please take a look at our website<\/span><\/a> if you have not had the opportunity to do so.\u00a0 Reading helps bring the world alive and this is a great opportunity to gain knowledge.\u00a0 It is never too late to read a great book!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding Schedules<\/b><\/p>\n

Your PowerSchool account will be available for you to view your <\/span>new class schedule<\/b> on <\/span>Monday, August 22nd at 9:00AM.<\/b>\u00a0 A few simple clicks on our website will give you access to everything you need to know about the opening of the 2022-2023 school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please take a moment to read the information below\u2026 many of your questions may be answered.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

1) If you have questions regarding logging into PowerSchool, or creating a parent account, please visit\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/sites.google.com\/pvcsd.org\/pvcsd-parent<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 If you still have questions, please email Mrs. Sherwood at\u00a0<\/span>lsherwood@pvcsd.org<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) IE stands for Intervention\/Enrichment.\u00a0 This period is when students will receive additional academic support and enrichment.\u00a0 Students may receive AIS services, band lessons, and\/or speech or OT\/PT services during this time.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) If you have other questions regarding your schedule, please email our School Counselor, Ms. Coleman at\u00a0<\/span>kcoleman@pvcsd.org<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s get to your student information:<\/b><\/p>\n

1) First, go to the Putnam Valley Central School District website at<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>http:\/\/www.pvcsd.org<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Click on the Middle School tab at the top of the page. Please click on the Student\/Parent Resources tab to find all things necessary for the school year including the\u00a0tab, <\/span>Code of Conduct\/Student Handbook\/Laptop Agreement<\/b><\/a>.<\/b>\u00a0 Please read the three documents titled, Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, and Laptop and Mobile Device Agreement in their entirety and when completed, please fill out and electronically submit the<\/span>\u00a0Online Middle School Agreement Permission Form<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0 We will not issue a laptop unless this form is\u00a0completed in full\u00a0and returned electronically.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laptop distribution will take place during school hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) The link to PowerSchool Parent Access will provide you with your child(s) class schedule as well as transportation information.\u00a0 Please enter your account username and password.\u00a0 For directions to create an account and to link your child or children to your account, please click on the following link: <\/span>https:\/\/sites.google.com\/pvcsd.org\/pvcsd-parent<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>PLEASE NOTE:<\/span> Many families have already set up an account when they were in elementary school.\u00a0 For those of you who have not or those of you new to the district,<\/span> an email will be sent with your <\/span>access code <\/b>information. For help, please email\u00a0<\/span>lsherwood@pvcsd.org<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Once you have logged into the parent portal of PowerSchool, you will see a number of tabs along the left sidebar.\u00a0 We ask that you focus on four tabs that will have all the information you need.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grades & Attendance<\/b>: This tab provides the area where you will see the student\u2019s grades and attendance throughout the year.\u00a0 You will also see your locker number and locker combination here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Transportation<\/b> information is located under the tab that looks like a small bus. This will provide you with your bus number and any additional transportation needs.\u00a0 The link to the bus schedule is on top of this information.\u00a0 If you would like to contact the transportation department, please call 845-528-8900.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Demographic Change <\/b>tab needs to be reviewed and updated.\u00a0 The center column of this form is the information we currently have on file.\u00a0 If changes need to be made, please enter the new information in the right hand column.\u00a0 Once all changes have been made, please click on the \u201c<\/span>submit<\/b>\u201d button located in the lower right hand corner of the page.\u00a0 We will then confirm and update your Demographic Information.\u00a0 We need this information to be current and correct.\u00a0 We use this information in case of an emergency.<\/span><\/p>\n

My Schedule<\/b>: This tab will provide a printable copy of your child\u2019s schedule. Please note, our schedules run on a six-day rotation cycle.\u00a0 A, B, C, D, E, F days will appear on your schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you finish, please click on the sign out tab in the upper right hand corner.\u00a0 Please\u00a0<\/span>DO NOT<\/span>\u00a0share your User Name or Password with anyone.\u00a0 Each student will have his or her own login.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the year progresses we will continue to provide you information in a paperless fashion.\u00a0 Please keep in mind that we continue to be in a very uncertain time and our practices may change over the course of the school year or prior to the beginning of the school year based on guidance updates.\u00a0 Thank you for your flexibility!<\/span><\/p>\n
