February 27th Curriculum Night

PVMS Community -

On February 27th we held our first Curriculum Night.  Below you will find a link to the video of the evening’s presentation as well as responses to questions posed by some of the attendees.

Thank you to Mr. Dan Mahoney for videotaping the evening and making this presentation accessible to anyone who could not attend.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.

Ms. Mangiere

Does the integrative and collaborative way the MS is teaching and moving forward filter into the high school?

The H.S. uses many integrative and collaborative approaches such as humanities classes, research courses such as Science Research, and IB.

The science curriculum - how does it affect the NYS exam in 8th grade? And if our students are in Earth Science, do they take both exams?

We began the process of revising our scope and sequence to address the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) during the 2015-2016 school year.  The state expects us to be fully integrated with the new standards by the 2020-2021 school year. The state is in the process of developing assessments aligned to the NGSS. Students who are enrolled in Earth Science DO NOT need to take the NYS Science Exam.  The state recently informed us of this change.

Is there a place where we can view the curriculum for each grade level by class?

At this time, no.  However, this is great feedback.  We will be updating the out of date maps that are on the website. Some teachers do provide a syllabus for their classes that can be found on their class websites.
