Dear PVMS Families,

Welcome to the winter season!  This time of year brings joy, happiness, and family gatherings but it also brings attention to emotions that build throughout the entire year.  This is a time to reflect on what went well and changes that could be made for the upcoming calendar year.  Emotions run high and it is extremely important to be sensitive to what everyone might be challenged with on a daily basis.  This is just one more reason to be kind and empathetic to those around us as we address these topics on a daily basis through our advisory classes.

I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of a very important Facilities Project Bond Vote being held on December 4th from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Putnam Valley Elementary School.  Our Middle School is earmarked for approximately 9 million dollars in renovations.  The building has been virtually untouched from its inception in 1972.  Some major changes would be a new four thousand square foot space with a library and flexible learning spaces.  In addition, a new expanded cafeteria where we can cook our own food, renovated bathrooms, improved stage area with expanded seating (enough to seat an entire grade level) so that all can eat together and have recess together at the same time, and new chorus and band spaces.  For further details, please take a look at all of the possibilities.  Please remember to vote!

Over the last several years, our PVMS Home Work Booster Lab has been funded by the Hope for Youth Foundation.  We are looking forward to a calendar signing event where Jim Witt will be with us on Wednesday, December 12th from 5:30 – 7:00 in the PVHS Main Entrance foyer for a calendar purchase and signing.  Please help spread the word as the Hope for Youth Foundation has given back to the Hudson Valley for many years.  These calendars make for great gifts and not only have scenic pictures but Jim Witt’s long-range forecasts.

Concert season is upon us and it is wonderful to see families attend these events.

Our Winter Chorus Concerts will take place Tuesday, 12/11/18 for 5th and 6th grade and Wednesday, 12/12/18 for 7th and 8th grade.  These concerts take place in the high school Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 7:00 p.m.  A snow date for these concerts would be on 12/13/18 at 7:00 p.m.

Our Winter Band Concerts will take place Tuesday, 12/18/18 for 5th and 6th grade and Wednesday, 12/19/18 for 7th and 8th grade.  These concerts take place in the high school Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 7:00 p.m.  A snow date for these concerts would be on 12/20/18 at 7:00 p.m.

Holiday Recess will begin on Monday, 12/24/18 – Monday, 1/1/19.  We resume classes on Tuesday, 1/2/19.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season with your families.  Be sure to spend time with your children and discuss the importance of forming relationships, working hard, and building character.  It is through making good choices and setting examples for others that everyone learns and grows on a daily basis.  Monitor your child’s progress and partner with us in establishing the best experience possible for our children.  We look forward to an exciting 2019!

Sincerely,

Travis W. McCarty
