Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Spirit Week is here! We are all so excited about our PVES special theme days this week! All students and staff are invited to participate in the fun. The dress themes are as follows:

Monday, June 13th:  Crazy Hat or Hair Day!
Tuesday, June 14th: Flag Day (red, white, and blue)
Wednesday, June 15th: Crazy Sock or Mismatch Day!
Thursday, June 16th: Field Day (grade level colors/t-shirts)
Friday, June 17th: PVES Pride Day (blue and white)!

Thank you for your enthusiasm. These days are meant to be kept simple, but fun. We certainly have lots of school spirit!

Congratulations to our amazing Kindergarten students on their outstanding Kindergarten Show this past week! These young students sang their hearts out, and the music and singing were outstanding! Thank you so much to our wonderful Kindergarten teachers (Ms. deMey, Ms. Foor-Liso, Mrs. Verde, Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Hess, and Mrs. Mahoney) and to all our support staff, who made this performance possible. Students and parents truly enjoyed this show on Friday, and standing ovations took place!

Our Kindergarten students also played a very important role in our PVHS Senior Cap & Gown Walk this past week. As always, this was such a special tribute to our high school seniors, as they walked the elementary hallways filled with an adoring audience of staff and students. This year, we had our Kindergarten students escort the seniors for part of this parade, showing the strong K-12 community, and the connection and breadth of this PVCSD journey. It was magical, and we wish the PVHS Class of 2022 the very best!

Thank you to our PTA who provided an assembly for our K-2 classes this week, which was based on the Pete the Cat books. The PTA will also have all of the pre-ordered yearbooks ready for distribution by next week. We appreciate all your efforts this year! Our PTA is amazing!

All grade levels have been so busy with end-of-the-year activities! Our first-grade classes took part in BOCES workshops that focused on pond studies! We are so fortunate to have a pond right on campus for these wonderful nature studies.  Our second-grade classes have been hosting writing celebrations, and our third-grade classes hosted a grade level Poetry Celebration with families! Beautiful Haiku poems were written, and parents joined in the fun! I thank our teachers for all their efforts at this busy time of year, and I truly thank our PVES parents for taking part in your children’s school life!

Our fourth-grade students were fortunate enough to participate in a Revolutionary War Reenactment on Friday. History came to life on our front fields on this day, as each class took place in authentic Revolutionary War learning. We thank our teachers and the Putnam Valley Education Foundation for making this day possible for our students.

Our Fourth Grade Moving Up Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd, at 10 AM. All attendees over the age of 1 must have a ticket to enter. (This includes any elementary students who will be joining their families at this time). Ticket information will be sent home later this week to all fourth-grade families. We are looking forward to a beautiful celebration!

Our Summer Boost Academy will be taking place from Monday, August 15th, through Thursday, August 18th, at PVES, from 9:00 to 12:00 each day. Classes will be offered for students exiting grades K-4, and transportation will be provided. More information on free registration for this Summer Boost will be coming your way separately.

Please be reminded that there will be no school next Monday, June 20th, in honor of Juneteenth. Our elementary students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon on both Thursday, June 23rd, and Friday, June 24th. Report Cards will be made available online in the late afternoon of June 24th. They will also be mailed via U.S. mail during the last week of June.

And so we begin the last full week of school this year! Together, we have overcome great challenges, but we have worked collaboratively to provide our students an amazing year of learning, growth, excitement, and fun. The pride going into this Spirit Week is strong. Thank you for being part of our amazing school culture!

Enjoy the week ahead. It should be a fun one!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
