Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy Friday! This special day began with a very special “Support the Troops Assembly” facilitated by our Character Education & Diversity Committee. It was amazing to see the children welcome so many Veterans from our PVES families. Mr. Sam Oliverio also joined us to support the troops, along with cadets from the ROTC program at Marist College. Thank you to everyone who was able to donate supplies to send to the troops. PV and American Pride filled our school today!

Due to the snowy winter and the many school cancellations, schools will now be in session from April 2nd through April 6th. Please note that new instruction WILL be taking place in all content areas during this week, along with regular classroom homework and assessments. Unfortunately, we have had to miss a great deal of instructional time this year, and this week will prove to be extremely important academically. Thank you for making every effort to have your children here throughout that make-up week.

Please see the attached Weekly Notices for new activities and upcoming events. We are very excited about the first Color Run at PVES, which will take place on Saturday, April 28, in honor of our dear Fatima Martinez. Thank you so much to Mrs. Meaghan Boyle, who is working so hard to organize this special event. Please plan on attending. It is sure to be fun for all!

Congratulations again to the very talented students who participated in the PVES Musical last weekend! Both shows were very well attended, and the students made us so proud. Thank you to Mrs. Calhoun and to Mrs. Phillips for your hard work on this performance. The audience loved it, and the children just sparkled!

Please be reminded that there will be a half-day of school for elementary students on Friday, April 20th. Dismissal at PVES will take place at 12:00 PM. Progress Reports will be sent to families with the 3rd Quarter update, and parent conferences will take place for some students on an invite-only basis. As you know, you are always welcome to set up a meeting or a conference call with any of your children’s teachers if you have questions or concerns. Official Report Cards will be available at the end of the 4th Quarter, in June.

We hope to see many of you at the Special Person/Seuss Spectacular tonight at 6:00 PM. Thank you to the PTA for planning for this event. We love to come together as a learning community.

Please keep reading with your children at home and enjoying good literature together. Take turns reading to each other, discussing the characters or the facts in the book, and connecting it to other things you read and see. Our students love to discuss their favorite authors, and many of our classes are learning many researched facts in their non-fiction reading and writing at this point. They have a great amount of information to share!

Enjoy the weekend ahead. Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday of next week, March 29th and 30th. We are hoping that March “goes out like a lamb”!

Warmly,

Ms. Podesta
