Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

And June is here!  This wonderful school year will be wrapping up this month with many activities, classroom events, and celebrations.  We thank you all for supporting your children each and every day, having them ready and organized for learning, and celebrating their amazing growth and successes.  The school year has gone so quickly.

We do have a very important change in the calendar for our elementary school.  On Tuesday, June 25th, the elementary students will dismiss at 12:30 PM.  (This was originally a full day of school for students). Please plan accordingly.  On Wednesday, June 26th, students will dismiss at 12:00 PM.  These times are different due to bus schedules and ceremonies.  Thank you for making note of this and spreading the word.

Our first PVES Sustainability Festival will be taking place this coming week, for grades 1 through 4.  Classes will take part in learning stations focusing on caring for our environment, protecting our planet, recycling, natural energy sources, and more.  We thank our Sustainability Committee for making this day possible, and we look forward to this exciting day of learning.

This past week, our staff members and our students’ parents had the wonderful opportunity to attend workshops presented by Dr. Cassie Yackley on social emotional health and Trauma-Informed Schools.  This professional development was extremely meaningful and important, and we appreciate the fact that Dr. Wills made this learning possible.  Thank you to those who were able to participate!

Our school nurse would like to remind you that New York State Law requires that students entering grades K, 1, 3, and 5 must submit a physical exam from their pediatrician.  Any exam for this year dated after September 1, 2018 will be accepted for this year.  These physical exam records can be faxed to Mrs. Kathy Hill at 845-526-7849.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Hill at our school.

We thank our wonderful PTA for the enriching assemblies they are providing our students this year, the many ways in which they support our staff and our parent events, and for the efforts they are making to prepare for our Fourth Grade Moving Up Ceremony and our incoming Kindergarten events.  We all work together, and this sets a wonderful example for our students!

Enjoy this beautiful weekend and the beginning of June!

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
