Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Congratulations to our third-grade students who are performing their Recorder Concert this afternoon for their fellow students, and this evening for their families. The concert will take place at 7:00 PM in our Auditorium. Thank you to Mrs. Calhoun for your work in preparing the children for their first instrumental music concert. We are looking forward to a great show!

Next week is SCREEN FREE WEEK! If you would like to join in this initiative, please develop ideas with your children to do more of next week, without the use of iPads, computers, phones, television, and video games at home! Great ideas to find more time for would include reading, playing board games, taking nature walks, writing stories and letters, playing outside, building things, designing inventions, solving puzzles, and talking to each other! Thank you for joining in this wonderful initiative! Electronics are amazing, but taking a week off from them at home might allow us to discover many wonderful activities to share with the children more regularly!

Congratulations to our Assistant Principal, Ms. Jenette Mistretta, on receiving Tenure this week at a special Board of Education meeting. Congratulations also to Ms. Abby Foor-Liso, one of our elementary teachers, who also received Tenure this week. We are so fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated staff in our building. They truly make the school an amazing place to learn and grow!

Please check the Weekly Notices carefully. We are inviting you to fill out a Parent Information sheet that we will review carefully when placing students in classes for next year. We do not ask for specific teacher requests, but we do ask for your input on learning styles and peer relationships. These sheets will be collected until Friday, May 11th.

Now that our Third Quarter Progress Reports have been sent home, we ask that you continue to encourage your child to maintain great work and study habits throughout the final months of the school year. There is still plenty of curriculum to cover, and great progress that will be made, and we want to finish the year with students displaying behavior that is aligned to our Great Expectations, and preparing well for a solid start to the next school year. Thank you for all that you do to support our school initiatives with positivity and motivation.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Open House Nights, which are Monday, May 7th, for families of students in grades K through 2, and on Wednesday, May 9th, for families of students in grades 3 and 4. Both Open House Nights will run from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

Enjoy the weekend ahead. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming school events.

Warmly,

Ms. Podesta
