At the Special Business Meeting of May 23, 2018, the Board of Education passed the following resolution-

WHEREAS the safety and security of students and staff is the single most important responsibility of our school district; and
WHEREAS with the increasing instances of threats and serious incidents in schools across the nation, school districts are faced with funding extensive new safety initiatives; and
WHEREAS trained uniformed armed school resource officers have played an instrumental and lifesaving role in neutralizing and resolving serious incidents in schools; and
WHEREAS the wide range of social, emotional, and mental health needs of students are constantly increasing, adding additional financial burdens and becoming daily responsibilities of public schools;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Putnam Valley Central School District implores the NY State Assembly and Governor to partner with the NY State Senate and immediately approve the Senate’s Protecting Our Schools legislation that provides desperately needed resources and funding for safety, security and mental health support for schools across our state.
