Safe Kids-Peer Education Outreach Program

Begins in the Spring

This club is for seventh graders who want to participate in a peer education program. Participants will meet before school and during recess to learn safety lessons that they will be teaching to the elementary school classes. The goal of this club is to empower children learn to become assertive and learn safety rules that will ensure their safety an prevent abduction and abuse. This club will be meeting in the Spring.

Recycling Club

Did you know that in a lifetime, the average American will throw away 600 times his or her adult weight in garbage? In this club we will organize and run the paper recycling effort throughout the school. We will communicate with the students and teachers about our recycling efforts through announcements so they can help us make recycling successful. We will also brainstorm other ways to recycle things in the building to help keep our Earth clean.  This community service will make you proud of yourself and you will help the environment at the same time

Go-Green Club

The club will look at environmental concerns in the middle school and to action to make positive change.  The club will be responsible for recycling plastic, glass and cans at the middle school.  Anyone interested is joining the Go Green club is welcome. We would like the club members to look at the way we run our lunch room and come up with ways in which we can be more environmentally friendly

PVMS iTeam Club

As a member of this club, you will have the opportunity to share your computer/laptop knowledge with other members while learning new tricks of the trade.  You will attach printers, fix printers, setup laptops, learn about software and more.  Members will often be sought out to visit classrooms to attend to computer questions during the course of the day when schedules permit.

Computer Club

Monday - Friday @ 7am

Students use the computers in the MS Lab for various reasons. Not all students at the Middle School have a computer or access to the Internet at home. Some use them for school assignments, for help with their homework, to complete homework assignments, search the Internet or to play the educational games that the club has purchased. A “spirit of cooperation and respect” is encouraged and maintained.  Events associated with club:  Recycle printer cartridges used to purchase programs

Chess Club

Students will learn basic moves and strategies.  Chess helps with problem solving skills and pro-active planning skills.   Beginners and advanced students welcome.  Boys and girls welcome!

Knitting Club

Have you ever wanted to make your own gifts for family and friends?   Knitting has once again become a popular pastime and a fun way to pass the time, with many possibilities.   Students will learn how to knit such items as scarves, blankets, etc. Beginners and Advanced knitters welcome.  ALL welcome!!

Drama Club

Every year the drama club auditions students to partake in the middle school spring musical.  On average 60+ kids are accepted and rehearse from September-March for the production. Meetings are as necessary but are often especially in the months of January and February.

Students will create a variety of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional projects.  Students will use a wide variety of materials including pastels, crayons, paint, clay, plaster, and wire.

Mural Club

Students will learn how to create large paintings based on their own original sketches or through grid enlargement.  Photo realism techniques will be also used and taught.  The completed mural paintings will be hung throughout the MS.

Student Council meets the first Thursday of the month.  We plan dances, sponsor spirit days and support some middle school community events, i.e., Red Ribbon Week.  We do community service, such as donating money raised through spirit days.  Last year we donated over $1,500 to the Putnam Valley Food Pantry.

This club unites Putnam Valley History with Art.  We have been awarded a grant from the Putnam Valley Education Foundation that will enable us to begin working on a major tile mosaic project for the front of the Putnam Valley Post Office.  Each rectangular panel on the front of the post office will contain artistic representations of historical facts about Putnam Valley.  The work will begin immediately.

Students will create stage props for the drama club productions, Band, and Chorus  productions.  Meeting as needed a few weeks prior to various performances.  TBA

Jazz Club

Jazz Club is open to all students in band, especially those who play band instruments.  Any students who are not in band but play piano or drum set are more then welcome to join the jazz band.  Spring concert in May.

Yearbook Club

Cooking Club

The purpose of this club is to help students increase their skills in this area.  We will work with students to come up with different recipes that are easy to make.  Plus, knowledge of measuring skills through the implementation of recipes.   

All ideas for new clubs will be considered throughout the year.  A proposal including a brief description of the club, advisor's name, and student names interested (7 or more) must be submitted to Dr. Fine.  Approval depends on money available, building space, and appropriateness for school.  Administration has the right to start/end a club at any time.
